In the Origin of the Story series I’ll be sharing insights of how some of my stories came to be. What inspired them, and what kind of process followed it. All of that spoiler-free, so you can still enjoy the story if you didn’t have a chance to read it yet.
Today I share the process behind my post-apocalyptic short story, To Conquer the Sea. As you will see, it traveled quite a lot publication-wise, but it’s now available on my website. Continue reading “To Conquer the Sea: The Origin of a Story”

Yesterday was the release day for a Polish anthology, Memento. Opowiadania o życiu i śmierci. (Memento. Stories About Life and Death) by RW 2010 Publishing House. Inside, you can read not one, but two of my stories. Bębniarz pana Roache (Mr. Roache’s Drummer) addresses the theme of death in a quasi-steampunk setting, while Siedem procent szans (Seven-Percent Chance) deals with living.

A new ebook was released yesterday by RW2010 publishing house. “Bierz mnie” (“Take me”) is an anthology of speculative fiction stories with erotica as their theme, and my fantasy story “Sanne i drewno” (“Sanne and Wood”) is one of them.
Publisher about the anthology:
Books are not the only thing writers love and the literature is not the only thing they can pleasure from – after all, they are women and men. The authors of this anthology gave birth to nine daring stories about that most human thing, though at times it’s also the foreign thing, for the enjoyment of the readers looking for the new experiences. The past, the present, and the future mix with places far and near, science and magic mixes with intimacy and desire, and beauty—with ugliness; exotic things weave into those common ones, subtletly with straighforwardness, and love—with sex. From all this comes an anthology to wake up senses and excite the imagination, but also to give the readers some thought, not only during a long, sleepless night.
Authors: Istvan Vizvary, Katarzyna Kowalewska, Stanisław Truchan, Katarzyna Uznańska, E. M. Thorhall, Grzegorz Piórkowski, Joanna Maciejewska, Radosław Lewandowski, Dawid Juraszek.
Last weekend has been good for flash fiction.
Two of my drabbles “Jaki ojciec taki syn” (“Like father like son”) and “Kołysanka” (“Lullaby”) have been published in Polish e-zine’s “Szortal Na Wynos” special autumn edition. You can download the issue in multiple formats (epub, mobi and pdf) from Szortal’s website.
At the same time I have pleasure of being once again a part of Fiction Writers Group’s Halloween drabble anthology. My “Anna’s Special Day” have been published in the “Frightful Tales for All Hallow’s Eve” and is available in pdf format on the group’s website.
A couple of days I got an automatic post from Facebook inviting me to view my 2014 summary and – of course – share it with my friends. I looked out of curiosity and noticed that the snippets were based on the pictures I uploaded and the amounts of “likes” they got, so Facebook pretty much missed most of the important events in my life. I shrugged and created my own: a simple collage of seven anthologies published this year. Because, in the end, writing is one of the most important parts of my life and I always get very excited seeing my stories released. Continue reading “Another year goes by…”
A new ebook was released yesterday by RW2010 publishing house. “Do diabła z bogiem” (“To hell with god”) is an anthology of speculative fiction stories with religion as their theme, and my “Wszyscy jesteśmy bogami” (“We all are gods”) is one of them.
Publisher about the anthology:
To hell with god… But which god? To which hell and why? Ten authors answers these questions in different ways, but they are not kneeling down. Can speculative fiction writers write about religion? Our anthology proves that not only they can, but they also should! The result of confronting beliefs with reason, past with the future, magic with fantasy might surprise you. And some of you might come to a conclusion that everything is… fiction.
Authors: Grzegorz Piórkowski, Bartłomiej Dzik, Stanisław Truchan, Hanna Fronczak, Karolina Cisowska, Anna Dominiczak, Paweł Ciećwierz, Joanna Maciejewska, Istvan Vizvary, Dawid Juraszek
